When you invest in a hot tub, you likely plan on getting years of use out of it. Unfortunately, issues with hot tubs can arise when you least expect them to and prevent you from using your hot tub. The good news is that there are a few basic things that you can do to troubleshoot your hot tub and get it back into good working order. Understanding a few of the most common issues with hot tubs and how to resolve them will give you the knowledge you need to care for your hot tub more effectively and keep it working the way you expect it to:

  • Low water flow: If water flow is low in your hot tub and your jets aren’t as powerful as they usually are, it’s possible that a clogged filter is to blame. Over time, your filter will accumulate dirt, residue and debris, which will eventually inhibit proper water flow. The good news is that this issue can be resolved simply by replacing your filters regularly and investing in routine professional hot tub maintenance in New Haven County, CT.
  • Loud pump: If you’ve noticed that your pump is operating much more loudly than it normally does, it’s important to consider pump replacement. When the parts in your pump begin to wear down, it leads to much louder operation. This problem is an early indicator that your pump is going to break down, so it’s important to get it addressed by a professional as soon as possible.
  • Low water temperature: Hot tubs are supposed to have hot water, so if your water temperature is low, you know that something is wrong. First, check your settings to make sure that you have the right water temperature set. If the water isn’t warming up at all, it’s likely that your heating element has failed and you will need to have it replaced.
  • No water from jets: If your jets aren’t releasing any water, it’s possible that you’re dealing with air lock. Air lock happens when you refill your hot tub after draining it and air gets trapped in the jets. You can usually fix this issue by opening all of the jets and letting them run on high for about 10 minutes, turning them off and repeating until air starts bubbling from your jets. Then, run your jets until they’ve released all of the trapped air. You can also resolve this issue by loosening the nut connecting the motor to the spa plumbing and releasing the trapped air.
